I'm blogging just because I feel a need to raise awareness in whoever reads my blog on a new virus that is spreading like wildfire. Reading this entry might help those who are clueless about this irritating, mass-mailing virus.

If you recieve an email with the following subject, for the love of your pc, do not open it!

1. Your Password
2. hi, ive a new mail address
3. Paris Hilton & Nicole Richie
4. smtp mail failed
5. Mail delivery failed
6. Registration_Confirmation / Registration Confirmation
7. You visit illegal websites
8. Your IP was logged

E-mails with these as its subject contains a virus known as W32.Sober.X@mm or CME-681, WORM_SOBER.AG, W32/Sober-{X, Z}, Win32.Sober.W, Sober.Y, W32/Sober@MM!M681. It is a worm type of virus. It infects Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP.

So what does it do?

It basically sends itself as an email attachment to addresses gathered from the compromised computer which may degrade your pc performance and it overwrites the file luall.exe with a copy of itself so that the worm will run each time LiveUpdated is launched.
